September  2010

Dear TST Members,

The Executive Committee of the Technical Society of Toledo assembled a sub-committee to study the dues structure for membership, the value that members receive and whether the value received furthers the mission of TST as an umbrella organization, facilitating inter-communication between the technical and professional organizations.  As the needs of the organizations are changing, we find that their budgets are under stress due to lower membership and less corporate support for memberships.  In an effort to increase communication, decrease TST expenses and better align the cost structure to organizations, the following enhancements have been implemented.

   1. Organization memberships are reduced to a flat fee amount, based on total membership.  Previously, a charge per member to cover the printing and production of Tech Topics was a portion of annual dues.  For large organizations, this became too costly.

   2. Tech Topics will be distributed electronically rather than physically producing a printed newspaper.  The vast use of email is now a more effective means of delivering timely and pertinent information.  The electronic format will be easier to send to many individuals that may have an interest.  It can be printed as desired or merely viewed, eliminating costs.  TST will email Tech Topics to a single organization contact person or to the organization’s complete mailing list, whatever their preference is.  If a printed and mailed copy is preferred, an annual production fee of $10.00 will be charged.

   3. Corporate memberships have been adjusted on a sliding scale based on gross sales.  Our corporate memberships continue to grow every year.  A corporate membership includes one free luncheon package valued at $150.  This enhancement encourages luncheon participation and ultimately increases networking opportunities.

   4. A new category has been created called a Supporting Partner.  This category provides increased visibility for your organization through all publications and announcements.

   5. We continue to provide PDH certificates for registered P.E.’s.

We believe these changes address many of the suggestions we have received from our membership.  We are always open to new ideas to provide the highest value for our members.  Please take some time to look over the attached membership flyer.  Thank you for your membership and participation.  Please contact me directly for your thoughts and comments at 419-249-5494.

Sincerely,

William A. Thomas
